After attending the Polyglot Software Unconference in 2022, I was so inspired by the Unconference format that I decided to run a hardware-focused unconference to bring together Vancouver’s best hardware folks: the first annual Hardware Unconference.
I met Jun Park at an event, where he spoke of building a manufacturing and prototyping hub in Vancouver to support the local tech startup ecosystem. We both want to help local folks build awesome things, so we teamed up to make the Hardware Unconference happen.
After picking a date and putting down a deposit out of my own pocket (ulp!), I began reaching out to the engineers and builders I knew in Vancouver to invite them to the Hardware Unconference.
All in all, it drew 113 local engineers, including founder, c-suite, director, and principal-level engineers from companies like Kardium, General Fusion, Ideon, Rapidia, FORM, Cellula Robotics, Semios, LMI, CropVue, Etalim, Orbital Research, and more.
We also built a custom sensor PCB badge to measure temperature and humidity that we gave out to every attendee - stay tuned for the open-sourcing and build post!
